DOMESTIC HEAT RECOVERY SYSTEMS
Why install a heat recovery system? As building regulations have changed and construction methods improved buildings are virtually air tight. The advantage of this is that unwanted heat loss is achieved reducing energy bills but this also prevents natural fresh air entering the building. All buildings require ventilation of some sort to provide fresh air in and remove the stale/moist air. So instead of removing all the warm air from your home and dumping it outside if you install a heat recovery system you can recovery up to 90 % of the heat from these areas and use it to pre heat the fresh air being brought in from outside to supply the living areas thus reducing energy bills.
How does a heat recovery system work? The heat recovery unit is located in the house (usually in the roof space or garage). This unit extracts the stale moist air from the bathrooms; ensuites etc via a network of plastic ductwork and recovers the heat from it through a heat exchanger inside the unit. This heat is then used to increase the temperature of the fresh air being brought in from outside which supply’s the living areas of your home thus reducing the heating bills.
